Max On Life–Answers and Inspiration for Today’s Questions

Image
Max Lucado’s book, Max On Life , deals with life’s questions and seeks to provide biblical answers to them. According to the author, a lot of the questions in this book came from the church he attends. With over 100 questions, ranging from financial difficulties, to marriage problems, and sexuality concerns, Max Lucado draws from his experience as a Christian clergy and knowledge of the Bible to provide guidelines for finding lasting peace and solution. Max On Life reminds me of a similar book by Billy Graham that was of tremendous help to me over ten years ago as a young Christian. I would recommend Max On Life as a good resource for any Christian as it does not shy away from the life’s difficult questions. It is a kind of book one can always come back to for answers, while checking the Bible for more insight.

The Lord directs our steps, so why try to understand everything along the way? – Proverbs 20:24 (New Living Translation)

Never Too Early

Ps 94:12 Blessed is the man you discipline, a O LORD, the man you teach b from your law; “Why is that child always quiet?” I asked my wife. “She doesn’t answer when I say ‘hello’.” “Her Mum told me she’s always like that in the mornings –grumpy,” my wife said. “Oh,” I replied. The little girl in question was about four or five years old. Her Mum was a kind woman who helped me took my daughter to the nursery three times a week. Whenever we meet and I say good morning to Dora, the little girl, she would give me a quick glance and look away. It is never too early to teach our kids (even a four-year-old) how to behave right, even when they are not feeling like it. They may not listen or obey all the time, but it is a good place to start.

The Heavenly Man – Free Christian Audiobook

Image
Christian Audio is giving out “The Heavenly Man – Brother Yun” for free this month. According the website review: “You've seen the headlines - government crackdowns on Chinese house churches; mass arrests and human rights violations...But this intensely dramatic autobiography makes it real! Learn how God took a young half-starved boy from Henan Province and enabled him to stand strong on the front lines for Jesus, braving horrific opposition and impossible odds.” Brother Yun a.k.a Liu Zhenying was one of the most persecuted Christians in China but he was able to escape by a divine miracle from the famous Zhengzhou Maximum Security . He sought refuge in Germany  in 2001 and has since continued his ministry (Back to Jerusalem Movement) from there.

A Reaction to Wall Street Riots

Image
Ps 37:30 The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom,  and his tongue speaks what is just. Herman Cain said of Wall Street protesters: “Don’t blame the big banks. If you don’t have a job and you are not rich, blame yourself.” Several hours later, he said of the same people: “They might be frustrated with Wall Street and bankers, but they are directing their anger at the wrong place. Wall Street didn’t put in failed economic policies…They ought to be over in front of the White House taking out their frustrations.” I have always have a nagging thought that some well-to-do folks see poor people as lazy, laid-back, and lacking in drive for success. Herman Cain ’s first comment smacks of this kind of view. His second comment seems more measured and thought out. However, he still did not consider that the so-called “big-banks” actually had a “big” hand in causing global recession . The bankers have not taken responsibility for that fact…more importantly, they have not cleaned up their

WikiLeaks and the Age of Information

Image
The word ‘wiki’ has never has so much mystery, wonder, amazement, fear, worry, and trepidation. The feelings listed above actually depend on who you are and what you do. If you are just an average citizen who is an internet troll, then the first half sums up how you feel at times. If you are a western politician with a high position in the government, then you are prone to experience the second half of the emotions, you may had ‘with sleepless nights’ on top of that. Information has become a potent weapon that open eyes and disturb governments. Centuries past, if you print a true story about a king or queen or any other kind of ruler, you may find yourself in a murky dungeon or adorning the hangman’s noose. These days, such information annoys and frightens politicians like a cat under a pile of snow who will do anything to get out of the predicament it finds itself in. I have not read much about Wikileaks. I have no doubt about the truth of some of the so-called ‘revelations’. I can

Mornings and Beginnings

Image
Mornings can be one of the most refreshing time of the day for a lot of people, me included. It is a time to start again, to look forward to the day and plan towards whatever the heart desires. Such is how I am feeling today – fresh, revitalised, and hopeful. I hope the dreams God has put in this heart of mine will be realised and fulfilled. For it is one thing to start well, and it is another matter to finish well.
